Greetings gents, did you know that in windows there are a whole pack of useful tools that most people have never seen let alone used?

For those wondering if they know what the programs i'm talking about in this guide are, you can skip it if you know the following: Msconfig, Netstat.

msconfig

Hold down windows key and press R. Welcome to the Run prompt. Inside the box type "msconfig" you should get a window open that contains a series of options. MSconfig is what windows uses in order to determine which services and applications should be run when windows starts.

Step 1 - Stop crappy applications.

Click on the startup tab. This tab will list ALL of the applications than run when windows does, feel free to de-tick anything that you don't know or want. (Google if unsure!) This will drastically speed up your OS, additionally there is no bypass to msconfig, you cannot hide any application from it, if it's going to run on startup msconfig will know.

Step 2 - Service Massacre!

Click on the Services tab. BE CAREFUL. This tab contains all of the services that are run on startup, INCLUDING ESSENTIAL ONES, if in doubt, leave it alone.

Simply untick if you want a service not to run on start up. Recommended you leave Microsoft services alone unless you know what you are doing. Google is unsure.

Netstat

Curious what's using your internet? Want to know if you've been l33t h4x0r3d? Welcome to netstat! The cute little program that microsoft made that will list ALL applications using your internet!

how? Press windows key + R once more to open run, now type "CMD" into the prompt.

A little black box will now open. This is the most powerful thing on your machine. DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT USE ANYTHING THAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ON IT.

Type "netstat -b" into the prompt. This will run Microsoft's network monitor. Wait a few moments while it does it's job and it should list all the applications, and IP addresses, of any internet connectivity over programs. Neat huh! If you don't know anything on this list, time to go find out!

For techsperts: type" netstat -?" for a full list of commands, which will enable you to list things not assosiated with programs (E.g. Microsoft connections) for further/better diagnostics.
